Saturday afternoon we spent “window shopping” all the stores close at 2:00 PM. It is all quite bewildering at this point. One Mark (German Money) is approximately $.25 (quarter) in our money but it is their dollar so makes their prices look high. We find most everything to be expensive over here and quite different. The people look and dress so differently. All the clothes are dark and the women’s hats so plain. Their faces are even different. So many of the men have such rosy cheeks. We were told of the polite manners here but fail to find them so far. We are pushed — shoved — and not so much as an “pardon me”. The cars have the right away which means you had better stay out of the way!!
Saturday night we had dinner at another Hofbrau with Jack Mealey — the Beltz and their two babies and the Lindgrens and their baby. We really turn the heads when we all walk in. There are never any children in these places. We had a delicious meal here — Chateaubriand and the trimmings. Really our best meals so far. Ice cream is $.50 a serving. Milk is scarce so we are becoming cola addicts.
