Sunday Garmisch

May 03, 1964

Sunday, May 3; Up for mass and breakfast at our hotel. Mass in large(cold) cathedral. Continental breakfast again! Ugh. Hurried so boys could see Glaukenspiel at 11:00 AM — just made it. Then off to the Garmisch. Never did see Jack and the girls until we got home that night. Lovely right to Garmisch and the weather was nice …

Jimmy and children found a ride on the ski lift but I preferred to remain on the ground. Garmisch has been site of winter Olympics several times — first time in 1936. We saw the stadium where they were held — very small in comparison to our stadiums or what we might expect for such an event.

All the buildings have murals — most holy — and are so colorful. It is supposed to be a tourist city and unreal but I loved it. To me it was fairyland — surrounded by the Alps — beautiful trees — birds singing and the picturesque homes. It started to rain as we went to Oberammergau and we only saw the church there. It was beautiful — even prettier than one at Garmisch. We didn’t get home until 10:00 PM — I was EXHAUSTED.
