Wednesday-Packing up
September 02-more, 1964
Wednesday, September 2; Today we are being packed to move and I am back at the beauty shop. So much has happened that I haven’t written and time has gone so quickly.

They said they hoped we hadn’t eaten (we had just finished an immense dinner!!). They started us off with a martini — then dinner (so thankful they had their big meal at noon!). Dinner was fleisch salad — potatoes peeled and baked – some fish (herring I think) and straight vodka. (Supposed to drink one small glass with each bite!! — I could not). Dessert was vanilla ice cream and bananas. After dinner — wine — and later Apple Streudel — oh my aching stomach! Lovely evening with lovely people. We should have gotten to know our neighbors better – sooner!! Had Klimisches down for dessert last Saturday night. Brought us a record for going away. We looked at our slides and theirs. Very nice evening.
Sunday morning 9:45 AM Mass at Panzer. Jack Dowds, John Bier, and Bill’s friend Jim came for breakfast. HEARTY EATERS. Sunday evening John, Jim and Butch Howard came for chicken dinner. We went to see “Tom Jones” and it was awful with a capital “AW”.
Now we have to settle down to get ready for our return trip. Entertaining was all over for Germany.
Monday night we all ate hamburgers at the AYA.
Tuesday was a going-away party (potluck) for Msgr. Troy. So nice to see so many before we leave.
Wednesday, today the packers arrived at 9:00 AM. Did not get thru when we hoped. Plan to go to officers’ club tonight. Adlands have asked us for dinner. Hope some of the others will be up there too.
Mary O. came by to wish us bon voyage this a.m. and brought me a lovely copper base.
